Barium phlogopite is found as rock-forming mineral of groundmass in kimberlites, composing the Manchary and Aprelskaya pipes of the Khompu-May kimberlite field (Central Yakutia) and in glimmerite xenoliths, occurring in the Manchary pipe. Glimmerite xenoliths are composed of differently oriented phlogopite plates (up to 0,5 cm). Reversed zoning is typical for the most mica grains regarding BaO content. BaO content reaches 14,6% in central zone, and 4,8% in marginal zone. Mesostasis of kimberlites has phlogopite-serpentine-calcite composition and microhypidiomorphic-granular structure. Shape of mica grains is prismatic and flake, dimensions no more than 200 mkm. Individual grains are identified in mica, which central part is phlogopite, and peripheral part ? barium phlogopite (up to 10,1 % BaO). Amount of such grains in particular areas can reach 30%. Moreover, there are perovskite, strontium fluorapatite and minerals of magnetite-chromspinellid series in the groundmass of rock. Enrichment of mica with barium is related to manifestation of barium metasomatism in kimberlites of the Khompu-May field, at early and late stages of magmatic process.
