Background: The aim of this study was to analyse the serum biochemistry of value intervals for the most commonly used energetic biochemical variables of European mouflon from a game reserve in the eastern part of Slovakia. From biochemical variables, glucose (GLUC), cholesterol (CHOL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and triglycerides (TRIGL) were analysed. The obtained values may be of use for the health assessment of Moulton in further studies.
Methods: During the research between 2014 and 2015, a total of 60 mouflons (Ovis musimon) (n= 30 males) and (n=30 females) were analysed. Blood samples were taken from the same identical animals 15 males in 2014 and 15 males in 2015 and from the same identical 15 females in 2014 and 15 females in 2015. The experimental group consisted of 4 to 5 year old mouflons. Trapping was performed via a classic catcher device. After which, the animals were caught down by hand. Samples were collected in winter using blood collection tubes and heparin tubes then immediately centrifuged.
Results: The object of our work was to analyse the statistical differences in biochemical values between both sexes. During research performed between 2014 and 2015, a total of 60 mouflon (Ovis musimon) (n= 30 males) and (n=30 females) were captured in the eastern part of the Slovak Republic. Blood samples were taken from the same individuals in subsequent years. 15 males in 2014 and the same 15 males repeated again in 2015 and, from the same 15 females in 2014 and again in 2015. Animals were physically and clinically normal European mouflon aged between 4 and 5 years in winter time.
Conclusions: Our studies conclude that direct analysis of biochemical values is useful in assessing the overall health status of the animal particularly, on assessment of the diagnosis. Based on the results of biochemical values, it is possible to design and modify therapy or follow the course of a disease.
