Abstract

Qualitative picture of the degree of environmental pollution in Sofia city was obtained using magnetic signature of road dust. Collection of 117 samples was studied by magnetic methods and SEM microscopy. The most polluted points are central part of the city and main crossroads. Both irregular-shaped and spherical particles of high-iron content are responsible for the enhanced magnetic signal in the road dust.
