INCREASING ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF SOLAR PANEL TRACKERS BY HYDROSTATIC DRIVE BASED ON MECHATRONICS TECHNOLOGY
Abstract
In Romania, there are great possibilities for conversion and use of renewable energies, especially wind and solar energy. In order to maximize solar energy conversion, both as thermal energy and electrical energy, there are used sun tracking systems for solar thermal or photovoltaic panels, implying various types of drive: electric, pneumatic or hydrostatic. Based on the experience of more than 50 years in the field of hydraulic and pneumatic drives owned by the Institute INOE 2000-IHP, there have been designed trackers actuated hydraulically and pneumatically, suitable, in particular, to solar panel multiple systems. To optimize the hydrostatic tracking systems, this paper proposes the use of mechatronic modules based on hydrostatic components, which, in addition to typical power density, also provide increased flexibility and adaptability, required for computerized sun tracking control. The specific mechatronic modules designed have been tested by theoretical methods, using mathematical modeling and numerical simulation, and also by experimental methods via tests conducted on models under laboratory conditions. The results obtained, both theoretical and experimental, have confirmed the possibility to control the working speed, programmable on a computer.
