It is widely recognized by scholars and experts on international and European Union (EU) level that the waste management and waste reduction are important resource. Turning waste into a resource is an essential part of resource efficiency and boosts a circular economy. Food waste is a serious global issue, which linked to environmental, economic and social impacts. IMPLIFICATION OF EPHIPPIUM ANALYSIS (CLADOCERA, BRANCHIOPODA, CRUSTACEA) FOR RECONSTRUCTION OF PAST ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES IN CENTRAL YAKUTIA, RUSSIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Frolova, L., Frolova, A.)

The aim of our investigation is to reconstruct the local and regional palaeoenvironmental conditions and to highlight the rapid evolution of the thermokarst lake during the Holocene climate optimum. The investigated lake was located in Central Yakutia, Siberia, Russia. The investigated core was collected in a small pingo within a large Central Yakutian thermokarst Khara Bulgunnyakh basin (alas). According to ephippium analysis the formation of the lake coincided with the Holocene climatic optimum. Using cluster an...

MARGINAL ABATEMENT COST CURVE FOR ASSESSING MITIGATION POTENTIAL OF LATVIAN AGRICULTURAL GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS: CASE STUDY OF CROP SECTOR

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Popluga, D., Naglis-Liepa, K., Lenerts, A., Rivza, P.)

Latvia has been actively involved in reducing global climate change. However, since 2006, along with an increase in economic activity, greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from Latvia?s agricultural sector have tended to increase; besides, the agricultural sector is the second largest source of GHG emissions, in 2015 accounting for 24.2% of the total GHG emissions in the country. Such changes in GHG emissions from agriculture in Latvia indicate that without additional measures Latvia cannot reach its GHG emission target...

EVALUATION OF RISKS IN AGRICULTURE IN THE CONTEXT OF CLIMATE CHANGE

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Zeverte-Rivza, S., Popluga, D., Berzina, L.)

Over the past decade, the widespread concern about the staggering effects of climate change, particularly in the agricultural sector, has become very serious. It has been agreed that the inter-annual, monthly and daily distribution of climate variables such as temperature, radiation, precipitation, water vapour pressure in the air and wind speed affects a number of physical, chemical and biological processes that drive the productivity of agriculture. Thus, understanding the possible consequences of climate change...
