POLYLACTIC ACID/ZINC OXIDE NANOSTRUCTURED FIBROUS MATERIAL BY NEEDLELESS ONE SOLVENT ELECTROSPINNING FOR PROTECTION AGAINST TICK-BORNE DISEASES

(STEF92 Technology, 2024-11-01, Liga Rampane, Zane Zelča, Chaima Salmi)

Ticks (Ixodidae and Argasidae) pose significant health risks as vectors for infectious diseases, with their prevalence expanding across Europe and North America. Ticks employ sophisticated sensory mechanisms, notably utilizing Haller's organs, to locate and sense their hosts. These sensory structures detect various cues, including chemosensation, changes in atmospheric CO2 concentration, and radiant heat emitted by potential hosts. Once a host is detected, landing is facilitated by electrostatic attraction, accele...

BETULIN INTEGRATION METHOD INTO SOLUTIONS FOR NEEDLELESS ELECTROSPINNING

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Laimdota Vilcēna, Zane Zelča, Silvija Kukle)

The aim of the research is to develop a method for betulin integration into electrospinning solutions to electrospun qualitative nanofibers webs morphology with high surface area and increase bioavailability. The main challenge in this study is to prepare betulin - containing electrospinning solutions with suitable concentrations due to limited betulin solubility in water and low alcohol concentrations. Tree concentrations of betulin extracts were obtained. The operation sequence to obtain electrospinning solution...

MODIFICATION OF NATURAL FIBERS WITH SOL-GEL TECHNOLOGY, DURABILITY OF COATINGS AND STUDY OF STRUCTURE

(STEF92 Technology, 2019-06-20, Zane Zelča)

This study focuses on natural fiber nano-coatings - hemp and cotton modification and coating surface structure. For surface modification sol - gel technology is used. To predict the quality of the sols and the surface structure, the coatings were initially applied to different materials and tested with optical microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Samples were analyzed before and after washing as well as before modification with Fourier - transform infrared spectroscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. ...
