INVESTIGATION OF GROUNDMASS MINERALS OF KIMBERLITE ROCKS BY X-RAY ELECTRON-PROBE MICROANALYSIS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, L. Suvorova, D. Yakovlev, S. Kostrovitsky)

The mineralogical analysis is a highly effective method of prospecting diamond-hosting rocks. The main goal of investigating kimberlites rocks, the primary source of diamonds, is to examine the mineral composition of kimberlites. The microprobe analysis is currently the principal method to define the compositions of megacryst minerals from kimberlite rocks. In addition, determination of the groundmass mineral composition is important for evaluating the diamond potential of kimberlites. This paper presents results ...

RESEARCH OF NEW MINERALS BY MICROPROBE

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, L. Suvorova, A. Sapoznikov)

Currently the Electron Probe X-ray Microanalysis (EPMA) is the leading method in investigating of chemical composition of new minerals, which can be detected as small accessories. The results of this method are required for registration of new minerals by the IMA Commission on New Minerals and Minerals Names. Six new minerals were found in other rocks from Baikal region by scientists of Institute of Geochemistry. These morphology, chemical composition and paragenesis were studied with Microprobe JCXA-733, Jeol Ltd...

INVESTIGATION OF ULTRASONICS USE FOR COLEMANITE FLOTATION

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, Ozkan, Safak, Gungoren, Can)

The aim of this study is to investigate ultrasonics use for colemanite flotation. The samples used in the study were provided from Eti Mines Inc.’s Emet Boron Works. The samples were 0-3 mm concentrates which could have not been increased to desirable B2O3 \% grades. At first, determination of moisture and grinding experiments were carried out. The liberation size of the ore was determined as minus 250 $\mu$m and minus 38 $\mu$m was removed because of the negative effect of slime coatings in flotation. Then, it wa...
