ARSENIC RELEASE FROM ANTHROPOGENIC SEDIMENTS USING SINGLE-STEP EXTRACTION IN THE AREA OF ZEMIANSKE KOSTOLANY (SLOVAKIA)

(Stef92 Technology, 2011-06-20, Ľubomír Jurkovič)

The soils in the study area Zemianske Kostolany were polluted with fly ash material after dam failure of the coal-ash pond (1965). Fly ash represents possible source of potentially toxic elements, because meteoric water or groundwater may percolate through and interact with the ash materials in soils, producing leachates that contain elevated levels of trace elements, in our case, arsenic. The main objective of this study was to assess the potential of arsenic releas e into the environment. Amount of released arse...

CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT OF A DIESEL CONTAMINATED SOIL

(Stef92 Technology, 2011-06-20, Costel Bumbac)

Organic contaminants such as total pe troleum hydrocarbons, including aliphatic hydrocarbons, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon s and BTEX are recognized as one of the predominant pollutants within Romanian contaminated sites. This study presents a set of experiments for the remediation of a soil contaminated accidentally with petroleum products conducted in slurry-type batch systems, designed to establish the best remediation approach. The experime ntal variants consisted in biological remediation (natural attenuat...

CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF SOIL POLLUTION WITH FLUORINE

(Stef92 Technology, 2011-06-20, Ştefan Ispas)

The research regarding the soil pollution with fluorine has been realized on the lands near the Aluminium Factory from Slatina (S .C. ALRO S.A.). Two soil profiles (0-120 cm.), as well as several agrochemical proofs (0–20 cm.) from the area that has been the most affected by pollution have been analys ed (Picture 1). Fluor ine accumulations in soil occur depending on the emissions intensity , the atmosphere status (the prevalent direction of air stream s, the frequency and the quantity of the rain-fall), the dis...

EFFECT OF COMMERCIAL CEMENTITIOUS MATERIAL ON PHOSPHORUS SORPTION BY AN ACID COARSE-TEXTURED SOIL

(Stef92 Technology, 2011-06-20, Antoine Karam)

Repeated application of phosphorus (P) fert ilizer in soils, in excess of crop removal rates, may increase the concentration of P in soil solution and conse quently the transfer of soluble P to streams. Excess P in natura l aquatic systems can promote eutrophication of lakes and rivers. The application of calcareous sorbent in the adsorptive removal of P from soil solution could be a suitable technique. The objective of the experiment is to evaluate the sorption of P in a marginal coarse-textured soil (pH 5.5) ame...

EFFECT OF LIMING ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF ALUMINUM AND ALUMINUM UPTAKE BY MAIZE GROWN IN A COARSE TEXTURED SOIL

(Stef92 Technology, 2011-06-20, M.C. Casseus)

The phytoavailability of aluminum (Al) in Al-ri ch acid podzolic soils is of particular concern in many Quebec agricultural areas due to its toxic effect on plant growth. Liming materials may mitigate Al phytoavaila bility and toxicity depending on Al pool and plant part, respectively. Our objective was to determ ine the effect of dolomitic limestone on the distribution of Al species in soil and to evaluate the uptake and distribution of Al in the different parts of maize ( Zea mays L.). Maize was grown in 40- cm ...

GEOLOGICAL, PEDOLOGICAL AND BIOLOGICAL RESEARCH OF AREAS AFTER BROWN COAL MINING AND OPTIMIZATION OF THEIR RESTORATION METHODOLOGY

(Stef92 Technology, 2011-06-20, Michal Řehoř)

The research of restoration applicability of dump rocks started about 25 years ago. However, the complex geological, pedological and hydrogeological evaluation and the evaluation of zoocoenoses of dump areas has not been elaborated yet. It is the main topic of grant project started in 2009. Main results of this research are shown in this paper. Main attention is focused to the comparison between restorated areas and areas retained for natural succession in North Western Bohemia.

PARTICLE CHARACTERIZATION AND DETERMINATION OF ERODIBLE FRACTION OF SURFACE SOIL NEARBY THE OPEN PIT IN MALMBERGET MINE, SWEDEN

(Stef92 Technology, 2011-06-20, Qi Jia)

Wind erosion of soil from exposed areas in mining sites is one of the sources for dust generation. Particle size distribution a nd mineralogical composition of source soil, erodible fraction of surface soil, moisture, as well as organic matter content are important factors that determine the property of particulate generation process. In this research four soil samples were taken using shovel at different depth from the edge of the pit and the surface area nearby the pit in Malmberget mine in Sweden. Soil samples ...

THE SETTLEMENT ANALYSIS OF THE 2ND ORGANIZED INDUSTRIAL REGION (KONYA - TURKEY) CLAYS USING PLAXIS SOFTWARE

(Stef92 Technology, 2011-06-20, Ali Ulvi̇ Uzer)

In this study, the geotechnical properties of the 2nd Organized Industrial Region clays were investigated and the settlement analysis was made with Plaxis software. First of all, the geotechnical properties of the disturbed and undisturbed specimens taken from the 2nd Organized Industrial Region and its surroundings were determined with laboratory and field (SPT) tests accordi ng to criterion defined in TS 1900. For this purpose, there were drilled 18 bore wells with 40 m depth. The para meters that would be used ...

THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL PROPERTIES OF THE 2ND ORGANIZED INDUSTRIAL REGION (KONYA - TURKEY)

(Stef92 Technology, 2011-06-20, Ali Ulvi̇ Uzer)

In this study, geotechnical and mineralogical characteristics of 2nd Organized Industrial Region existing inside the boundaries of Konya Selçuklu Municipality were investigated with comprehensive field and laboratory tests. Th e investigation area formed with soft clay soils with gypsum consists of central-lake sediments. The strength and the compressibility characteristics of th e soil were defined w ith some correlations obtained by the laboratory and field test results. This aim, undisturbed and disturbed soil...
