Hydric soils, named as Gleysols and Stagnosols, have formed under conditions of saturation, flooding or ponding long enough during the growing season to develop anaerobic conditions in the upper part of soil profile. If microbes are active (>50C), if the soil is saturated with stagnant water, and there is a source of usable organic matter in the soil, then redox feauter will result.
