ASSESSING THE ROLE OF WINDBREAKS IN REDUCING WIND EROSION: REMOTE SENSING PERSPECTIVE

(STEF92 Technology, 2024-12-15, Lenka Lackóová, Maria Tarnikova)

Remote sensing (RS) imagery is widely used to assess and detect environmental changes in various areas and the numerous methods resulting from natural and human activities. To understand landscape change, including the role of windbreaks in agricultural regions, RS datasets are essential. Detected by the CORINE Land Cover (CLC) project, agricultural landscapes have undergone changes such as an increase in complex cropping patterns by 164.19% and in pastures by 15.3%, but a decrease in coniferous forest by 10.19% a...

ECOLOGICAL ROLE AND SPATIAL VARIABILITY OF WINDBREAKS IN SLOVAKIA: IMPLICATIONS FOR CLIMATE-RESILIENT AGRICULTURAL LANDSCAPES

Windbreaks play a crucial role in mitigating the impacts of climate change and preserving agricultural landscapes. This study addresses the knowledge gap concerning windbreaks in Slovakia, analysing 47 windbreaks comprising 24 trees and shrubs species. Predominantly, windbreaks feature Robinia pseudoacacia (21.8%), Populus nigra (16%), and Acer platanoides (8.7%) among trees, and Rosa canina (18.4%), Sambucus nigra (3.5%), and Crataegus oxyacantha (2.5%) among shrubs. Spatial analysis underscores variations in win...
