Reservoirs are important hydraulic infrastructure for water use and flood control. Their impact on the hydrological regime of rivers downstream is significant. Accurate and reliable forecasting of flows in the rivers below the reservoirs is very important in cases of extreme meteorological events (heavy rains) for flood mitigation.
