This paper presents the analysis of quantities and types of waste delivered to port reception facilities by passenger-cargo ferries at the Port of ?winouj?cie. The waste classification set out by applicable legal provisions, statistics on the numbers and sizes of vessels delivering waste to the port and journey frequencies of the vessels under review have been used, along with other inputs, for the purposes of this study. The objective of this paper has been to conduct an analysis of quantities and types of waste generated by passenger-cargo ferries at the Port of ?winouj?cie and to evaluate the arrangements used to collect the waste from the vessels. Further, the paper evaluates the appropriateness of waste management activities carried out in the port area in the light of the applicable national and international legal provisions. The input used for the study includes, but is not limited to, statistical data obtained from the Szczecin and ?winouj?cie Seaports Authority and insights from the ?Port waste management plan for the Port of ?winouj?cie?. The paper has been prepared relying on the applicable provisions of national and international law governing waste management in seaports. The analysis and evaluation carried out have demonstrated, inter alia, a relationship between the applicable legal provisions and the quantities of waste delivered to port reception facilities. Furthermore, in the framework of the study, areas for development have been identified for the Port of ?winouj?cie, in order to improve the ship-generated waste management solutions. The studies conducted are for general reference only and they should not affect the scientific thinking of the readers. The main purpose of this paper has been to sensitise the reader to the need to continuously monitor waste quantities generated by seagoing vessels as well as to the necessity of ongoing development of seaports with respect to the capacity of port reception facilities.
