A number of small mountain ranges (horsts) separated by small basins (grabens) with Tertiary sedimentary filling appeared in the Western Carpathians mostly in their NW and N part. The Tatry Mts. and smaller so called Ru?bachy ?island? are the northernmost horsts from a series of Western Carpathian horsts. Our magnetotelluric measurements focusing particularly on the nature of the Sub-Tatra fault and the interconnection of the Tatry Mts. with the Ru?bachy ?island? confirm steep dip of Sub-Tatra fault in the southern border of the Tatry Mts. and connection of Tatra and Ru?bachy horsts to the one transpressional structure.
