Trends in waste generation show an increase in the volumes of waste produced worldwide. Currently, municipal solid waste management is one of the primary tasks for environmental authorities in Poland due to industrialization and economic growth, growing income, and an increase in quantity and variation in the types of waste generated.
Conventional treatments of municipal solid waste using landfilling have become more difficult and expensive in Poland due to land deficiency and new environmental policies. The objectives of this study are to investigate existing municipal solid waste management practices, reviews the challenges, barriers and opportunities associated with improving waste management in Poland. The operations of selective and refuse collection, sorting, recycling, landfilling and incineration of packaging waste were considered. |
