Open-ended steel tube piles are widely used in marine construction, coastal engineering, port and offshore structures. During the installation of pipe piles with open end into the noncohesive sandy soil plugging effect usually appears (mainly under impact driving). It complicates the pile driving and may cause the increasing of the pipe pile wall thickness. In this paper the method of estimation of the possibility of plug formation inside pipe is elaborated with help of dynamic modulus of Plaxis 8v software. This program allows to take into account all soil properties and the nonuniformity of ground in the construction site. Method of equipment selection is proposed taking into account the plugging effects. Plugging influences on the drivability of pile, on the driving equipment selection and on total cost of construction.
