This article is devoted to the study of the disastrous influence of oil and petroleum refinery products on the environment. The chemical composition of oil as well as its influence on soil are considered in the following paper. The effects of oil spill depend on the variety of factors including, the oil types and quantity of oil spills and their impact on the environment. Analysis of both the factors determining the harmful effect of petroleum products on the environment and the processes of decomposition of petroleum products allows solving the issues of water purification and reclamation of contaminated land. Soil and water treatment from oil pollution is of great theoretical and practical interest. Oil pollution leads to soil and water contamination. The growth of oil production and techniques of its processing are accompanied with increasing pollution of the environment. Such changes in the physical, chemical, biological properties of water and soil, which make them dangerous for humans, animals, and the living organisms can be called pollution. It is important to know that the selected water purification methods will also have an environmental impact.
