Mari El is one of the most ecologically clean areas of Russia. The local woods are famous throughout Russia and is the largest forest on the Volga river, which contain large amounts of wood and at the same time, every year increasing its use for recreation. Therefore, recreational use should pay a lot of attention. This paper examines the state of objects in the mass use of forest resources for recreational purposes on the territory of the coastal zone of suburban lakes. Conducted socio-environmental assessment attendance population the most promising areas. In the sociological survey involved more than three hundred people. The results allowed to identify the most visited places, current status of forests, the ecology of the lakes, the pollution problems of the banks, silting of the bottom, illegal fishing. As an acute social problem of the survey was stated in the absence of organized public facilities related to the organization of territories. Observed violations associated with the lack of trash cans, untimely export of a variety of wastes, not organized beaches, lack of access roads and roads with a firm covering. Proposed recommendations to improve the state of forests around the lakes.
