Environmental risks in waterstreams are not inconsiderable factor affecting the ecosystem and humans as part of the whole. As part of a comprehensive EU wide efforts to protect water bodies in Slovakia was adaptation of Directive 2000/60/EC which is establishing a framework for Community action in the field of water policy and water management. The core of the paper is an analysis of potential environmental risks in river basin Horn?d due to flooding. The aim is to identify possible sources of contamination, which in case of flooding and potentially affected by, among other things cause environmental damage. For this purpose, the existing locations with significant potential risk were imported into geographical information systems (GIS). In the program ArcMap, the position of these points was analyzed based on models of selected parts of the inundation areas of Horn?d and Torysa. The goal of research is line policy options to reduce environmental risks at critical flood sections of the river sub-basin Horn?d.
