PURIFICATION OF DRINKING WATER FROM IRON WITH THE HELP OF ACTIVATED ZEOLITES

The composition and properties of drinking water supply systems Ukraine must meet STATE STANDARDS 2.2.4-171-10 "Hygienic requirements for drinking water intended for human consumption". According to them, the concentration of iron for drinking water should not exceed 0,2 mg/dm3. Increased concentrations of iron dramatically reduce its consumer qualities. Water gets an unpleasant taste, yellow-brown color and becomes unusable for use, it is a reason of the rejection in the textile, food, paper and cosmetic industry. Therefore, the issue of developing adsorbent materials that would effectively remove iron compounds from water and be easy to use is now very urgent.
The purpose of this paper is the establishment of optimal conditions for the processes of thermal and chemical activation natural zeolite clinoptilolite of Sokyrnytsky deposit (Ukraine) and the possibilities of its use for the purification of drinking water from iron. For the purification of drinking water from iron, thermal and chemical activation of zeolite clinoptilolite, as well as activated carbon, have been used. It is established that in the range of zeolite, thermally activated at a temperature of 300 0C, characterized by the highest adsorption capacity. It can be used to clean drinking water from iron ions. It is revealed that the activity of impact to zeolite is the most effective method of acid activation in the shuffle mode. It is established that the optimal activation conditions are 7% HC1and processing time 2 hours. It has been established that natural zeolites can successfully replace activated carbon to purify drinking water. Chemical activation of natural sorbent promoted the improvement indexes of water purification. Dynamic exchange capacity is the main indicator characterizing the quality of water purification. In particular, in clinoptilolite chemically activated with 7% hydrochloric acid, the dynamic exchange capacity increased more than twice. |
