Land degradation processes facilitated by geomorphological changes in the Berbe?ti Mining Basin contribute to highlighting the mining anthropic landscape, so the relief changes its morphological configuration.
During morphological exploitation, the morphological alteration reaches a maximum value, being dependent on the exploitation and construction phase of the tailings dumps. Morphological alteration is closely related to the location of the quarries and the morphology of the surrounding areas. In the case of the quarries developed in the Berbe?ti Mining Basin, the morphological alteration is quite impressive, being obviously dependent on the dimensions of the quarries and its work fronts, but especially the relationship between these dimensions and those of the slopes on which the quarries are located.
All the phenomena of land degradation also affect the soil of the area, flora, fauna, water, the entire ecosystem. The modification of the natural lithological structure of the land, on depths that can reach 150 - 200 m, is also present in Berbe?ti. Following the exploitation of the lignite in the Berbe?ti Mining Basin, on the backdrop of a friable litology (clays, marls, sands), it was from an initial relief - hurricane -fluvial - considered primary, to anthropic one - considered derivative.
