Rotary kiln isa device used on a large scale in industry, including in thermal waste treatment. The article presents a review of methodologies for mathematical modeling of rotary kiln. It can be seen in the available bibliography that the most frequently modeled objectis a cement kiln. The modeling approach can be characterized as a division of the main model into submodels: gas and solid phase or the model of the reactor (residence time), the basic model (mass and energy balance) and the kinetics of the process. The referenced, representative models of a rotary kiln were compared due to the approach to modeling and the type of numerical methods used. In the article, the authors also describe their own algorithm of conduction, defining the individual stages of creating a model of the process of thermal treatment of waste in a rotary kiln with an indication of the packages and programs used. The probable model will consist of two submodels, among which one can additionally distinguish: a two-dimensional model with a radiating gas, CFD model of gas phase, the model of the reactor, heat and mass exchange model and a chemical kinetics model.
