The article discusses photovoltaics in Poland in 2016-2017 and the legal situation of the PV market, as well as its impact on the development of the Polish economy. In addition, the photovoltaic market in Poland was compared against other European Union countries. The article compares and discusses the results of the annual detailed photovoltaic market research in Poland, including such aspects as: production and sale of photovoltaic modules, import and export of photovoltaic modules and prices of photovoltaic systems. Presently available photovoltaic systems, their construction and ways of connecting solar modules are discussed. In addition, boundary conditions justifying the economic basis for the construction of photovoltaic power plants producing energy for the own needs of customers have been specified. As a research method, a standard cash flow model was adopted for an investment project involving the construction of a photovoltaic installation, where revenues are avoided costs of purchase and distribution of electricity through the production of electricity from PV for own needs. In addition, innovative and new technologies introduced by Polish producers of photovoltaic devices were presented, and possible future directions for the development of the photovoltaic market in Poland in 2018-2020 were indicated.
