The construction of a residence involves a comprehensive transposition of ideas into a well-designed project with numerous details, views, pictures, sections, material lists, hence leading to low implementation costs, with no mistakes, and with good ergonomics.
However, the urbanistic constraints must be considered when designing a house, i.e.: the land minimum width on the street; the minimum area for which the building permit can be obtained; the minimum size of the construction to be built in relation to the land borders; maximum height; maximum allowable area (footprint). Complying with the legislation in force and taking into account all decisive needs and motivations to build a house, we can deliver the optimal solution in terms of both comfort and rational use of space. To transform a house into a residence, we need to observe several aspects, such as: the orientation of the residence and of the rooms in relation to the cardinal points; functional and visual links between spaces; rooms sizing. Aiming at strengthening our students? theoretical and legal knowledge within the field of construction, we carried out a practical task and challenged them with an imagination drill as to find the optimal design solution for building under certain conditions imposed by legislative restrictions. Students were organized into working groups, each presenting their own strategies applied to different scenarios, hence seeking to establish the optimal solution following extensive debates. By assigning such tasks we favor a hands-on approach to the subjects in the curriculum that will appeal more to our students, developing creativity and inventive spirits. |
