Distance learning has become increasingly popular today. It is defined as the process of transferring knowledge to learners (students) who are separated from the instructor (teacher) by time and / or physical distance and are making use of interactive technologies to accomplish learning.
Krasnoyarsk state agrarian university also uses distance learning. Both teachers and students of our University benefit by the introduction of distance learning technologies in the educational process. Students can take part in online discussions and chat sessions with teachers or students, instead of having to attend courses in traditional lecture halls. Students are able to independently cope with homework and submit feedback to their teachers electronically. For teachers there is an opportunity to train a large number of people; to improve and diversify the learning process using new educational and methodological developments. Moodle as an acronym for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment is one of the forms for distance learning. Krasnoyarsk state agrarian university uses LMS (Learning management system) Moodle to introduce web technology in its courses. English is the main and necessary standard in our University because the lack of knowledge of English is a huge obstacle to international cooperation, scientific and / or career progress. So, English is compulsory course during all years of undergraduate academic studies in Krasnoyarsk State Agrarian University. Moodle platform is the main tool for English language learning. We would like to share our experience of developing English language Moodle courses both for regular students and distance learning system (DLS) students. This paper presents the new approach to using Moodle tools for distance English language learning in our university. The purpose of the paper is to show non-standard use of Moodle element ? Lesson. Typically English is carried out in the form of practical exercises in our university. However, the innovative use of Lesson allows an English course teacher to arrange interesting tasks and evaluate them effectively. |
