An important element in forecasting impact on groundwater of post-mining wastes used for open pit reclamation is the quantitative assessment of the absorptive capacity of deposited wastes (mainly Carboniferous rocks) and the volume of free rock debris as a zone more susceptible to mineral weathering and pollution leaching. These tests must be carried out simultaneously with the simulation on a laboratory scale of changes in the filtration coefficient of loose materials depending on the depth of the dumping ground and changes in vertical pressure exerted by rocks sown during reclamation. For these purposes, the Author proposed to adapt the research methods originally developed for the purposes of forecasting water hazards in shafts and underground excavations of mining plants.
