Rehabilitation techniques ?weld toe grinding? and ?WIG remelting weld toe? have an
beneficial influence on the increase of the fatigue life of welded structures by reducing
the stress concentrators at the intersection between filler and base material. This stress
concentrators reduction is achieved by increasing the radius of the connection between
those two elements of the welded joint, horizontal and vertical plates. From those two
techniques mentioned above, the technique that causes the greatest fatigue life is " WIG remelting technique" of the top seam. This technique is very effective because by WIG remelting of the top seam it eliminates the stress concentrators from the conection
between the base and filler material, and after solidifying the molten metal bath, it
creates a smooth transition between them. This paper will investigate whether these
reconditioning techniques influences favorably the behavior of welded structures in
static and variable loads and therefore if the application of these techniques is justified
in both cases. In the paper will be presented micro and macrostructures, graphics with
the variation of microhardness, static and fatigue tensile tests will be performed, and it
will be rised durability curve in case of fatigue tests. Also, in the paper, welded joints
reinforced with additional rows have been chosen to study, because they are often used, due to the favorable heat treatment effect between the welding layers. In fact, the
additional reinforcing welding rows, have a stress relief action on the adjacent layers,
by proper dosing of the linear welding energy and by a proper overlapping.
