When metal structures are manufactured, the heat cycle introduced by the applied
welding technology can cause structural changes in the base material, as well as residual stresses, which under certain circumstances can lead to changes in the shape of the structure. This paper analyses certain possibilities to avoid and reduce the stress level and the distortions in the welded structure by applying various welding technological methods. The paper presents the results obtained after the fillet welds were made using the robotic Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) process, by changing the building-up order and succession of the welded seams. The experimental program consisted in the manufacture of the welded pieces by using 3 building-up variants of the welded seams for 3 different types of molten metal transfer: short arc, spray arc, pulsed. The analysis of the obtained results revealed that the building-up order and succession of the welded seams have significant influence on the stress level and on the distortions that occurred during the welding process.
