The paper deals with the possibilities of using textile waste in the form of synthetic and natural fibers for the production of thermal and acoustic materials. The paper presents the results of the research that confirm that the waste fiber insulators can show more favourable properties in some areas than conventional synthetic insulators commonly used in the building industry.
The advantage of insulators from waste textile fibers is their high variability. In the field of them insulation properties, these insulators compete with the highest quality thermal insulations on the construction market. Their advantage is improved mechanical properties compared to mineral wool at the same bulk density, which makes it easier to incorporate these insulators into building structures. In the field of acoustics, it is an advantage to design an insulation material for specific needs in terms of sound absorption. By choosing raw materials and density, it is possible to effectively influence the acoustic properties of both low and high frequencies and to design a functional insulator to measure the need for its use in practice.
