The parking platforms required for the operation of different industrial, service, goods storing and manipulating companies, inside boarding houses, hotels, stores, gas stations, etc., are continuously and quickly developing, in close line with the development of economic activities and the construction field.
The technical solutions applied to realize the resistance structures for these surfaces are very diverse and, in several cases, do not include a proper resistance calculation according to the traffic intensity and the characteristics of the vehicles which are to use the respective platforms, a freezing-thawing verification and a complete study concerning the collection and evacuation of surface water on the entire surface. The applied resistance structures contain road layers close to the minimum thickness stipulated by the technical standards in force, placed on a foundation ground that is often not prepared adequately because of maximum investment reductions. This conception, to which the lack of permanent, timely and proper maintenance is added, leads to situations where the platforms show several degradations short time after opening to service. The paper presents several general solutions already adopted or which are being implemented, in order to improve the long-term behavior of parking platforms, starting from the resistance calculations and freezing-thawing verifications, according to the standardized national methods. |
