Sustainable Development Strategy is a policy established for the purpose of environmental protection. The strategy includes several policies which can be applied to designing, construction or building materials.
The idea of performance concept states that one should optimize the amount of waste products in building materials. Such materials should meet all the requirements and standards, simultaneously being innovative and cost efficient.
Waste products, acquire from various industrial process, must be properly disposed. High Furnace Blasting Slags or Fly Ash have been successfully used in production of mortars and concretes. Different kind of waste product with potential use is the magnetite concentrate.
The study aims to determine the influence of magnetite concentrate on strength properties and wear resistance of mortars and concretes. Several mortars and concretes were designed for the purpose of the study. The magnetite concentrate was added as an additive or partial replacement of the cement.
Study have shown increase of the strength properties in mortars and concretes with addition of the magnetite. Addition of the magnetite increases the wear resistance of produced elements. Replacement of the cement with non-reactive waste material did not increase the strength.
The research showed that the magnetite concentrate has a potential use for the production of the cement mortars. The disposal of the waste products for production of concrete can be one of the key elements of Sustainable Development Strategy.
