Geological storage of CO2 provides a way of reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, by capturing CO2 from major industrial CO2 sources, transporting and injecting it into suitable deep brine aquifer rock formations. The selection of the potential site for the CO2 storage is based on the analyses of all the available geological and geophysical data (well data, seismic lines, gravimetric and magnetic maps, outcrops, geological cross sections, pressure and geothermal regimes, mechanical rock proprieties, chemical compositions of water aquifer, etc.). Estimates of storage capacity are based on volumetric evaluations; injected CO2 volumes at reservoir conditions and chemical reactions between injected CO2 and dissolved mineral in brine aquifers are achieved using a compositional simulator that used Darcy Law, material balance equations and equation of state to characterization CO2 and brine phase behavior. This paper is intended to present the screening criteria used in selection of potential CO2 storage sites and source of uncertainties used in quantifying the impact on CO2 storage integrity, based on 3D conceptual model and dynamic simulation.
