From the glacial deposits moraines are the most heterogeneous and complex. Moraine - complex bodies, consisting of fragments, previously carried along by a glacier and normally consist of somewhat rounded particles ranging in size from large boulders to minute glacial flour.
The article studies the difference in moraine composition in Central Karelia and the Murmansk region. The complexity of moraine development with the help of construction equipment for the purposes of road construction is considered. The first studied site is located in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, on the Kola Peninsula directly on the coast of the Barents Sea (in the tundra zone). The second studied site is located in Central Karelia (Kondopoga district and Segezha district) in the taiga zone. Glacial processes in this area have formed a cover hilly-morainic landscape with a depth of dismemberment of up to 25 m, oriented in the direction of the movement of the glacial stream. In both cases, the bottom moraine, lying on the crystalline basement, is considered. The result of the works shows that the moraine of the Murmansk region has a predominantly sandy composition with inclusions of especially large boulders, pebbles and gravel. Moraine of central Karelia consists of sand, sandy loam, boulders and pebbles. The complexity of the development of moraines for the purposes of road construction is assessed according to the design standards in force in the territory of the Russian Federation. The physical and mechanical characteristics of the soils and the granulometric composition are determined in a specialized laboratory. |
