The results of stable isotopes 37Cl and 81Br research in ground brines of sedimentary and intrusive rocks are presented in this paper. More than 60 ground water samples from wells and boreholes throughout the Siberian Platform have been analyzed by the method of Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (IRMS). There are some differences of geological and hydrogeological sections between northern and southern parts of the Platform. The ground brines in northern part of the Platform have exclusively Cl composition with Ca or Ca-Mg cations. In the southern part of the Platform there are three hydrogeological formations with brines of Cl Ca-Na or Na-Ca composition. It has been established that in chloride calcium brines the values of Cl and Br stable isotopes show greater variations: ?37Cl changes from -1.67 to +1.26 ? (scatter 2.93 ?), and ?81Br changes from -0.8 to +1.47 ? (scatter 2.27 ?). The chloride sodium brines are typified by a smaller range of Cl isotope ratios and larger range for Br isotopes against calcium brines: ?37Cl varies from -0.29 to +1.54 ? (1.83 ?), ?81Br varies from -0.07 to +3.35 ? (3.42 ?). To provide indicator for genesis of highly mineralized ground water the comparative analysis with isotope chlorine and bromine data in crystalline rocks of Canadian and Fennoscandian Shields and in sedimentary rocks of North China Plain has been carried out.
