Today, as a result of the depletion of low- and medium-density oil deposits, the world faces the problem of increasing oil production by involving non-traditional, alternative sources of hydrocarbon raw materials, which include fuel shale. In the area of the Volga-Ural oil and gas province, tight shale hydrocarbons reserves are located in domanic sediments. Quantity and spatial distribution of organic matter of domanic species remains underinvestigated. Assessment of oil potential, generation of mobile hydrocarbons. This article shows the results of the definition of the composition of organic matter of the three sections of the domanic sediments of Volga-Ural Basin. The SARA analysis method was used to determine the group composition of the bitumen. Kerogen was separated by step-by-step dissolution of minerals with hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids. According to the element analysis, the Kerogen type was defined using the van Krevelen diagram, based on the ratio H/C and O/C. The study is aimed at an objective, based on the modern methods of defining the oil/gas generation potential of Domanic shale of Volga-Ural Basin.
