Tatarstan is one of the richest regions of Russia in terms of oil deposits. There are more than 100 oilfields with more than 3 000 000 000 tons of oil extracted up to day. The main deposits concentrated in in Devonian and Carbonic deposits, controlled by different genesis traps. Tatarstan is divided into 3 parts by the main rivers ? Volga and Kama. The main oil deposits concentrated in the South-East part (South Tatar arc), while there are almost no oil in the North (North Tatar arc).
To understand the structure of the Tatarstan deposits the regional seismic profile ?Tatseis? was done in 2003. The main aim of the study was to investigate the basement structure, while sedimentary cover was of less interest. The Regional seismic profile "Tatseis" has a total length of over 1,000 km and is located on the line Vorotilovskaya - Tansy - Yaransk - Mari-Turek - Kukmor - Almetyevsk - Sterlitamak. Profile lies in the territory of Nizhny Novgorod and Kiroskoy areas, the Republic of Mari El, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan.
In this paper authors describes the interpretation of the Tatarstan part of the regional seismic profile (total lengh 192 km) and the 25 wells located close to it. The main interest was to interpret new data on the sedimentary cover and location of the oilfields. 19 stratigraphic units were found in all of the wells. After seismic to well ties all of these stratigraphic units was traced along the profile.
Geometry of the layers shows the dramatic change in sedimentation process. Sedimentation was consistent from the Devonian to the Early Carboniferous, but in the Verean time the North and the South Tatar arcs was divided by the basement flexure. Authors assume it to be the possible reason of the destruction of the hydrocarbon deposits in the North Tatar arc.
