The commutation of inductive low voltage circuits of alternating current is accompanied by the occurrence of commutation over-voltages, often hazardous for the components of the electrical circuit. This paper describes a modern method for studying transitory regimes which occur at the disconnection of inductive circuits, based on the usage of a data acquisition system type NI-USB 6003 manufactured by National Instruments. The software used is Matlab, and the data acquisition method is based on Matlab programming. The paper approaches the situation when disconnecting an inductive circuit from an alternating voltage source in the real case and takes into consideration the capacity of the supply cable and eventual capacities which occur between the elements of the circuit. The method leads to the obtaining of diagrams for voltage variation at the coil?s terminals, of the current within the circuit and of the instantaneous power dissipated over the coil for several values of the disconnected circuit?s inductivity. In the first part of the paper is performed a theoretical analysis of the phenomenon, based on an electrical model with concentrated parameters and on specific equations of the system. The study is finalized with the achievement of analytical expressions of electrical parameters. For the measurement part, there has been drawn up a programme in Matlab and an interfaces circuit which led to experimental diagrams of the studied electrical parameters during the circuit?s disconnection.
