In the present time an approach is widely developed when the rock mass is considered as an energy-active hierarchical-block medium. The blocks of this medium are constantly interacting with each other and exchanging energy under the influence of various factors. In the intact rock mass the energy dynamic equilibrium of the medium is maintained due to constant energy feeding and, at the same time, due to continuous processes of structural discontinuities destruction on different levels.
The seismic energy frequently recorded in the rock mass is a part of the energy only (2-15%) released in the process of the rock mass blocks interaction along with thermal, kinetic, potential energy and etc. When mining the energy equilibrium in the rock mass is disturbed. In hard rocks in many cases the dynamic rock pressure is occurred. The mechanism of such occurrences is explained by the ability of individual blocks to accumulate potential strain energy and to realize it in the form of destruction of different-scale structure discontinuities in the rock mass. The paper describes the study results of energy state of the hierarchical-block medium on the case study of the Kukisvumchorr deposit mined (the Khibiny massif, Kola Peninsula). On the basis of numerical simulation data (finite element method) the values of specific strain energy were determined for the model?s homogeneous blocks and for blocks with various fracture networks. The analysis of specific strain energy change for the blocks in the model variants described has been conducted. The possibility of dynamic rock pressure occurrence in the hierarchical-block medium studied has been established when exceeding the critical energy values in different rock types.
