|
Predictions of catastrophic seismic events are extremely important. Such predictions are based on the continuous monitoring of many varying values characterizing the tension in the earth's crust. One of these indicators is micro oscillations in the Earth's crust, committed under the influence of the lunar-solar tidal forces. Devices for the registration of these oscillations are extremely complex, based on laser interferometric techniques. These devices converts length increment into according increment the phase of the optical signal which result in heterodyne reception transformed incremental phase differences of the received high frequency signals. Such devices allow measuring of the increment of distance, but the absolute length measurement remains a big problem. Known time-of-flight (TOF) measurement methods do not provide the required accuracy of measurements. Most of the known interferometric techniques are also not applicable. The paper discusses possible approaches to the construction of the necessary measurement systems, which should be characterized by a lack of necessary mechanical movements of any parts of the system, the possibility of continuous measurement of the absolute value of the length with the accuracy comparable with the interferometric methods.
