In order to design the RNAV (area navigation) precision approach (PA) or nonprecision approach (NPA) there is a need to collect vital information on runway, aerodrome obstacles, and other important factors that support approach and landing procedure. Therefore, the development of RNAV flight procedures requires the acquisition of relevant field data on objects that affect flight safety during its decisive stages.
Designing of flight procedures, updating aerodrome maps and aerodrome obstacle maps, creating obstacle limitation surfaces involves the usage of professional equipment and specialized processing of collected data.
The article describes practical field measurements performed at the Olsztyn-Dajtki (EPOD) airfield as a part of necessary data acquisition for RNAV GNSS landing procedure design. The survey was based on high quality geodetic equipment providing high accuracy, precision and reliability. During the measurements, the special attention was focused on obstructions directly affecting obstacle limitation surfaces. The results of geodetic surveys presented in this article were used as the basis for the designers to work on the appropriate flight procedure.
