Prediction of the effects of underground mining on the surface is connected with the necessity to verify the coefficients of the theoretical calculation of movements and deformations of the slope of a subsidence trough. One of the methods used to verify the coefficients of the theoretical calculation is the reverse evaluation of theoretical drops verified from the results of direct measurements of movements of surface points. The resulting movement of the surface point is resolved into a horizontal component (shift) and a vertical component (drop). Due to the fact that there is a known functional relationship between drop and shift, it is possible to calculate the values of shift from the determined values of drops. Crucial for the verification of the coefficients of the theoretical calculation of the effects of mining on the surface is thus the verification of the theoretical and measured drops of surface points.
This paper describes the formation of a subsidence trough in the area of Block 7 of the mining zone of Mine Plant 1 at the Lazy site on a line of an observation station. In this area, mining takes place in coal seam 40, using the method of directional longwall mining with controlled caving (longwall top coal caving). This paper gives the values of drops obtained from measurement on the line of the observation station during the mining of coalfaces 140702, 140704, 140706 and 140708, and the calculated theoretical values of drops of surface points. Using the measured and theoretical values of drops, the theoretical drops are verified, and subsequently the value of the coefficient of mining is determined, as well as the width of the stope in the probable time of failure of the rigid roof.
