Related to geodetic systems to take decisions in such a complex environment is not at all an easy task. To handle such a complex interdisciplinary approach several methods have been developed, using knowledge from different disciplines by considering several aspects and criteria. These can be very different one from another, some of them being of qualitative type, indeed hardly quantifiable. In this situation the question is which instruments could be used in order to support such a Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis as often the situation in geodesy.
Recently, the increased number of civil, industrial, socio-cultural or hydropower buildings and of new technologies brings engineers in front of a new problem, i.e. the detailed appraisal and understanding of the position in space and time of the monitored objective.
In this paper a Fuzzy-Logic based tool in support of the Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis in geodetic behavior monitoring and prediction will be presented and application possibilities to concrete situations will be emphasized. Fuzzy logic is a rule-based decision making where the inputs are measured quantities and qualitative influencing factors, and the outputs are objective deformation quantities. The obtained procedure will be discussed and conclusions concerning the usage potential of the presented methodology will be drawn.
