This paper has been written in conjunction with a public contract for the restoration of the partially lost and destroyed building documentation of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary at Hlu??n-Darkovi?ky in the territory of the Czech Republic, the contracting authority of which was the Roman Catholic Church. The requirement was the complete provision of measurement in the field and the collection of data, their subsequent processing and the interpretation of the results with the subsequent development of a precise 3D model. The three-dimensional model of the whole church was to display both the exterior and the interior and was to be made in digital form in a computer program that enables modern conversions to other projects and design environments, at best in the family of CAD systems. Thanks to it, it will be made possible to convert the whole administration of the church to digital technologies. The vision of the project for the building administrator is thus such that the model will be usable for the precise plotting of power system lines in the walls, water supply lines, heating systems, etc. This will thus prevent accidents during future reconstruction and other maintenance, and subsequent accidents, if any, will also be easier to trace. The work of designers, specialists on monument care and planners will be simplified, and the model will contribute to the overall modernisation and automation of the building.
Because of the uniqueness of the project of the automation of the building serving as a Catholic church, in which a very long lifespan of the whole building is assumed (even several centuries), the obsolescence of our methods can be expected in the future. Also, due to the necessary research activity of our institute, we have decided to use, test and compare more methods of measurement and processing in different modern systems. Thanks to it, we can thus offer in this paper, overall comparisons of the methods of conventional geodetic measurement using a high precision total station relative to the method of 3D laser scanning and the method of photogrammetry in terms of time demands, applicability and the precision of the individual methods.
