Ensuring shaft?s safe operation is the primary aim of measurements and observations performed in mining shafts. This involves not only determining the current technical condition of the mining shaft, but also determining causes of observed changes. In Poland, in order to preserve the efficiency of every shafts several inventory works have been performed, described in details in Ordinance. Observations ? including visual assessment and metric measurements ? are performed within a specified time interval. So they show only the state of the object at the time of observation, thus preventing an analysis in the context of the reasons for the changes. While only knowing the causes of the processes occurring in the shaft can protect him from critical failures. The report presents an overview of measurement techniques which are in use in order to perform shift tube?s inventory, with particular emphasis on telemetric measurement methods. Author compares classical measurement methods with possibilities of telemetry in several cases: financial, time-consuming and measurable. In the article authors claim that usage of telemetric systems can significantly increase safety for both using and measuring the shaft. Examples described in the report show that it could also replace some part of periodic shaft measurements.
