Obtaining data on buildings by means of TLS (Terrestrial Laser Scanning) has recently become very popular as the time needed to take the measurements is significantly shorter than in the case of the traditional methods. The technical parameters of 3D scanners (digitizers) are becoming increasingly advanced, while the accuracy of the data collected using them allows not only to translate the geometry of a real-life object into a digital image, but also to evaluate its physical condition. This is possible due to the digitisation of real-life objects by means of e.g. a Scan Station C10 laser scanner by Leica, allowing to generate a digital database in the form of a point cloud. This article discusses the factors influencing the quality of the data obtained by means of 3D laser scanning of different objects and their elements. The measurement variables may be designed in such a way as to arrive at a point cloud that researchers could use to obtain the anticipated effects. This article presents an example of taking measurements of a masonry structure, a light steel structure of a patio, and measurements of respective damages and cracks. Each of these cases is used to present different measurementrelated issues, including the phenomena related to the quality of measurements.
