Changes of the lake shoreline of glacial lakes in Tatras are significant indicator of postglacial evolution of their lake basins. In this research we evaluate the lake shoreline changes of the tatras lakes on the historical and actual analysis of the orthophoto maps from period 1949-2015. We very precisely evaluated the dynamics of the lake shoreline with application of retrospective analysis of remote sensing materials from that period. In some cases it led to quite marked shrinkage of open water lake areas as the consequence of the morpho-dynamic processes. Throughout the monitored period it led to irreversible shrinkage of the open water area to -18,4 % in comparison of their area in 1949. It was caused mainly by clogging of shallow lake basins by sediments from debris flows, fine fractions of material which was alluvial from neighbour debris cones and growing over by vegetations. On the basis of our results we could conclude, that some lake basins of tatras lakes are in advanced stage of their evolution. This study presents useful ways of usage detailed orthophoto maps and historical remote sensing photos in connection with GIS tools.
