A wireless system of continuous monitoring of pressure in a leg mounted in a powered roof support was designed in order to ensure the continuity of longwall coal mining process. Wireless multi-channel signal transmission in the longwall was applied for the first time. The extension of the power cell enabled maintenance-free use of the system and ensured comprehensive control of the support. The presented system monitors the pressure value in the spaces under the leg?s piston mounted in a powered roof support as well as the supply and return lines. At the same time, the system provides full visualization of recorded parameters in real time. This visualization is available in the local system directly in the wall as well as in the head gate and on the surface of the mine (e.g. in the control room). The system also enables continuous access to data in any way for any mobile system. Dedicated application allows for full diagnostics of the power hydraulics system and alarm signalling. Data archiving enables continuous access making it possible to study recorded waveforms and conduct the process of inference and forecasting the condition of the support. The aim of the presented system was to optimize the cost of coal production based on modern technical solutions that would fit into the Industry 4.0 strategy. The system passed practical tests, obtaining a certificate allowing it to work in underground mining workings. Tests carried out in the conditions of underground exploitation confirmed its practical suitability as well as high quality and reliability. An unquestionable advantage of the system is its adaptive possibility to operate in a wireless network. It is also compatible with various sensor. The wireless electro-hydraulic control system supports a range of communication interfaces to adapt to existing mining infrastructure in a given area. Therefore, the solution can be the base that integrates other systems operating in underground workings. The article presents the developed system and test results. The scope of its application and functions that can be implemented is discussed. The article provides examples of practical applications. The Authors believe that the developed device will have a wide range of practical applications in the near future. In addition to optimizing production costs, it also affects the improvement of safety during the process.
