Unique reservoir of Kazakhstan is a reservoir-cooler of Ekibastuz GRES-1, located on the territory of Pavlodar region in 17 km to North-East from Ekibastuz town. It was founded in 1979 in the washed basin of former bitter-salty lake Zhengeldy by filling with fresh water from the Irtysh-Karaganda canal.
Currently, water of reservoir is used for technical supply of the power plant, and in the future, it will be used for fish farming and irrigation purposes. The results of many years of comprehensive experimental field and laboratory hydrochemical studies of water cooling reservoir of Ekibastuz GRES-1 in accordance with the approved and applicable instructions and regulations. To determine the chemical composition of the water, methods, which are common in hydrochemical practice of fresh waters according to international rules of environmental monitoring, were used. The features of the chemical composition of the water-cooling reservoir of Ekibastuz GRES-1 in comparison with the cooling reservoir created on the rivers are identified. It was found that water of cooling reservoir while passing through the cooling system can both be enriched by mineral salts, and depleted by them due to prevailing at the moment of physical and chemical conditions (water temperature, flow rate, pressure, contents of organic matter, phytoplankton and etc.). Spatial distribution of biogenic elements, including total iron and easily oxidisable organic substances, is characterized by non-linear trend, with maximum values at both the water intake area and at discharge of cooling water. The evaluation of the quality of the water-cooling reservoir for long-term period was done. |
