Drainage of agricultural land is a critical water management tool for the sustainability of cropping productivity systems considering the links between this sustainability and the control of water logging and salinization processes from root zone. Land drainage also provides environmental benefits when it is sustainable designed securing the conservation and improvement of soil resources quality. A key aspect of this problem is the correct determination of distance between drains based on a series of environmental and human-induced factors.
The process of determining the distance between drains was highly influenced in the recent decades by ICT tools. Universities and research institutes developed different kind of models which are widely used by land drainage practitioners.
Satu Mare County, located in north-western part of Romania, presents significant areas with lands affected by humidity excess from different sources. As a result, in that areas were performed drainage studies followed by the implementation of several land drainage arrangements.
This paper will focus on determining the distance between drains from several land drainage arrangements using ICT tools and stressing the importance of computer programs in increasing the results accuracy.
