WEED CONTROL STRATEGIES IN CARROT CROPS

Carrot culture is highly dependent on soil, silty-clay or silty soils with high permeability and free of weeds are preferred. Weed control is a very important part of the production technology for plants. Chemical weed control has been found to have some advantages of which we mention: it is less labor-intensive, increases productivity, reduces the number of passes on farmland and increases production. The main purpose of this paper was to provide the most efficient solution for weeds control in carrot crops, using chemical and mechanical methods. Field experience has been placed using the randomized block method. It was a monofactorial experience, six variants were studied, in four repetitions, placed on a Preluvosoil molic. The average annual temperature is 7.9 ?C and the average annual rainfall is between 550-600 mm. The variants studied: V0 (witness) - herbicides have not been applied; V1 - Stomp 330 EC (pedimetalin 330 g/l), 5 l/ha; V2 - Kerb 50 WP (propizamid 50%), 4 kg/ha; V3 - Fusilade Forte (fluazifop-p-butil 150 g/l), 1.5 l/ha + Afalon 50 SC (linuron 450g/l), 1.5 l/ha; V4 -Dual Gold 960 EC (s-metolaclor 960g/l), 1 l/ha + Linurex 50 SC (linuron 500 g/l), 1.5 l/ha; V5 -Stomp 330 EC (pedimetalin 330 g/l), 5 l/ha + manual weeding. Syrkana F1 hybrid has been sown, type Nantes which has a short growing season, approximately 100-120 days. The main weeds identified in the experience were: Anagallis arvensis, Polygonum persicaria, Rahanus raphanistrum, Atriplex patula, Chenopodium album, Amaranthus retroflexus, Galinsoga parviflora, Capsella bursa-pastoris, Convolvulus arvensis, Equisetum arvense, Agropyron repens, Phragmites communis. The best ways to control weed development in carrot crops were achieved either by applying the Stomp 330 CE herbicide combined with manual weeding or by using the pre-emergent herbicide Afalon 50 SC or Dual Gold 960 EC in the first stage of vegetation and postemergent herbicide Linurex 50 SC. Our study demonstrated the positive effects chemical weed control has on the production. The production was 81% lower in the control group in comparison with V5 where the best results in weed control were observed.
