The research aim is to estimate the profit a forest owner can earn per full forest rotation cycle from forest stands of dominant coniferous species in Latvia, selling both the assortment of logs and biomass (BM) from final felling. The research analysed the situation in privately managed forests, composed of the coniferous species ? Norway spruce (Picea abies L.) and Scots pine (Pinus syllvestris L.) ? in different forest types in Latvia. The calculation of revenue from forest product sales took into account both the direct revenue from the sales of the assortment of logs and of tree BM, including branches and stumps, obtained from logging. The research found that the management of pine forest stands generated a profit from 2.7 to 8.2 thou. EUR ha-1 per rotation cycle for the owner, depending on the forest type. The highest revenue from growing pine stands was generated in the forest type Hylocomiosa. The management of forest stands where spruce was the dominant species generated a profit from 7.9 to 9.6 thou. EUR ha-1 per rotation cycle. The highest revenue from growing spruce stands was generated in the forest type Myrtilossa mel. If selling BM, marginal extra revenue may be generated: 2-7% from pine stands and 4-5% from spruce stands. It can be expected that with rising consumption of biofuels in future the price of energy wood will rise, increasing the profit for forest owners.
